And one of the fundamental principles of the macrobiotic way of eating is to start the meal with a bowl of soup which is easy to digest and helps to prepare our digestion for the solid foods contained in the meal.

Soups that are flavored with miso and shoyu (naturally fermented soy sauce) also supply us with probiotics and assist the body in maintaining a healthy alkaline state.
